Our Mission
Arizona Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) for Equity is a state-wide organization striving for equity and justice by building power through community directed organizing, increasing civic engagement, and empowering young leaders.
Why Become A Member?
Being a part of an organization builds community and power. Arizona Asian American Native Hawiian and Pacific Islanders for Equity (AZ AANHPI) is the only political AAPI nonprofit in the valley. It’s important for us to take action, in a way that works for us. Our work is grounded in communities based on the margins of power: refugees, youth, unhoused individuals, undocumented immigrants, elders, queer and trans folks, BIPOC people, low-income tenants, and the working class.
We work to redefine traditional membership and invite people from different communities, backgrounds, and conditions to take collective action to achieve change we want to see in our state. Anyone who wants to engage with their community should be able to, with zero restrictions.
Welcome Orientations: Our membership orientations take place 3 times a year in January, May, and September (specific dates and times will be announced prior). You’ll get to:
- Connect with our staff and other members in person
- Ground yourself with political education from the AANHPI perspective
- Learn what we’ve accomplished & how YOU can help us achieve future goals
Regardless of donation amount, all AZ AANHPI members will receive:
- AZ AANHPI for Equity swag
- 2 tickets to the Japanese Friendship Garden
- Exclusive discount card to 7 AANHPI businesses. View them here.
Join and contribute to existing programs (climate, youth, We Imagine Safety, immigration, civic engagement)
Advocate for programs and activities you want to see in your community
Although membership commitments are outlined here in monetary terms, we certainly welcome folks who cannot contribute monetarily to become members by taking action with our organization through volunteering, advocacy, and leadership opportunities. Folks who are houseless, unemployed, or formerly incarcerated will not have to pay any commitments.
No one will be turned away from membership for the inability to pay– please reach out to Tammy [email protected] if you are interested in becoming a member without a financial contribution.
Meet Tammy
Hi! I’m Tammy Nguyen and I am the Membership Director at AZ AANHPI for Equity. Being born and raised in Arizona has been an absolute privilege, all due to the immense dedication and struggles of my Vietnamese refugee parents. I’m so excited to build out a new membership program that is inclusive and centers community and power building at AZ AANHPI, the only political AAPI organization in the valley. It’s important for us to take action, in a way that works for us.
